Penal Code Section 187 defines murder as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. Malice aforethought means a clear intent to kill or the reckless disregard for human life. There is also another kind of murder called felony murder. Felony murder is when someone is accidentally killed while you are committing a list of certain felonies.
